petition: Stop the Execution of 25-Year-Old Arghavan Fallahi
Iran’s Supreme Court has upheld the death sentence against Arghavan Fallahi, a 25-year-old political prisoner (HRANA, 2026; Iran Human Rights Monitor, 2026).
Arghavan was arrested on 25 January 2025 in Parand and charged with “baghi” (rebellion) for alleged political activities. She spent approximately five months in solitary confinement in Evin Prison, where she was subjected to intensive interrogation and reported physical and psychological torture. On 1 July 2026, Branch 15 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court, presided over by Judge Abolghasem Salavati, sentenced her to death. The Supreme Court has now confirmed that sentence, placing her life in immediate danger (HRANA, 2026; Women’s Committee of the National Council of Resistance of Iran, 2026).
Arghavan had previously been imprisoned with her father, Nasrollah Fallahi, a political prisoner from the 1980s who remains in Evin Prison.
This case is part of a much larger and accelerating crisis. In early August 2026, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk publicly sounded the alarm over the sharp rise in executions and death sentences in Iran, stating that capital punishment is being used “to instill fear among the population and suppress dissent.” He highlighted the persistent lack of fair trial and due process guarantees, reports of confessions obtained under torture or other ill-treatment, and the high number of people remaining on death row (Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights [OHCHR], 2026). The UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the Islamic Republic of Iran has similarly raised repeated concerns about summary proceedings, inadequate legal representation, and the arbitrary application of the death penalty (Sato, 2026).
We call for urgent action:
Demand the immediate revocation of Arghavan Fallahi’s death sentence.
Call on the United Nations, governments, and international human rights bodies to intervene forcefully.
